2012 Movie Review

2012 Movie ReviewDirector Roland Emmerich has once again proved his metal with his new movie 2012. The story is written by producer-composer Harald Kloser and director Roland Emmerich himself.

2012 is a thriller story which is based on the Mayan culture prediction of Doomsday. The plot of the story follows the historical incident in which Mayan Long Count Calendar predicts the end of the world will occur at the end of the current cycle on or around December 21, 2012, which also coincides with the Galactic Alignment of December 21, 2012.

The story of the film also exhibits the struggle for survival of a divorced man Jackson Curtis (John Cusack) to save his ex-wife Kate Curtis (Amanda Peet) and kids Noha (Lima James) and Lily (Morgan Lily) from the disaster who lives with Kate’s boyfriend Gordan (Thomas McCarthy).

The cinematography of the movie is over dramatized. The thrilling scenes of struggle for survival are good but some scenes of destructions of great monuments like Eiffel Tower, White House Sistine Chapel and big buildings looks unrealistic. The grand monuments shatter as if they are made up of sand or paper.

The back ground score of Harold Kloser and Thomas Wander enhances the trauma and thrills of the scenes. The direction of Roland Emmerich is quite effective and it adds dramatic effects to scenes.

The script has nicely inculcated human emotion with the story of destruction. The story leaves effect on the audience mind.

The actors have done good work according to their characters. Actor John Cusack has impressed the viewers with his powerful performance.

Altogether the 2 hour 40 minute long 2012 is a must watch film. The film has been successful in creating a lot of questions in the minds of the audiences about the future of the world!

  1. Mr. Emmerich has done it again. This movie, 2012, looks awesome. I don’t think I can wait until it comes out. The CGI is mind blowing. Finally a film to spark the imagination.

this film is awful! the half an hour of destruction was cgi fun, but the same old “america saves the world” is sooo boring.  ridiculous speeches about saving those people who didn’t have the billion dollar tickets – “my daddy ‘the president’ would have saved them” says thandie. what a load of rubbish. i almost needed a sick bag….

  3. This Movie looks like it is going to be amazing. I am dying to see it. Have you guys seen the trailor?.

I loved this film. It was not nearly as trite as most of the disaster genre’ but actually quite inspiring. Its message that humanity is what makes us human was very touching and helped me overlook the surface grumpiness and minor sins we see in people day to day. I was not bored in spite of the movies great length, either I was in suspense or pulling for the characters the whole time. So pooh to the nitpickers . oh, and the special effects were great too.

  5. Hi,
Do we really believe in some sort of “change” is going to take place in 2012 based on an ancient culture? In my opinion religion was formed to explain things that were unexplainable to ancient people. Why’d it rain? The rain god made it so. Why is the person acting crazy? He has a demon.

    What is my ponit?

That if there is some “shift” in thinking it will go unnoticed by the masses. Most of us won’t realize it’s happening until we can look back and see the paradigm shift in retrospect. I believe nothing magical or alien will happen on that day. The same way nothing happened in the year 2000 when all computers were going to fail and the second coming of Christ was supposed to happen. Movie looks interesting though.

I have a very optimistic view and the date is not all that important. Society changes most when ir suffers most. We are going through that now and I am excited to see what comes out of it.

  7. There’s only one Supreme Lord. According to His will and wish, this world is destined to be destructed at the end, but the million dollar question is when is this End suppose to take place.

I found the usual “white middle class Americans save the world” unbearably trite and smug. Here’s what would happen: the American government would commandeer the world’s resources and build ships, selling tickets to richie rich Americans(however- what’s the point of money in the event of a holocaust?) and sail off and recolonize poor Africa all over again.
