Aamir and Kareena Eat Dinner with a Poor Weaver
Once again, Aamir stunned everybody with his distinct promotion style of his movie ‘3 Idiots’. In the exclusive promotional tour, Aamir will wander in seven cities of India. He is also giving clues to Media about his whereabouts.
In this promotional tour Aamir went to the house of a poor man like Rahul Gandhi, the young politician from Gandhi family. The Bollywood actor surprised a weaver, Hukum Koli and his wife by visiting their brick-and-mud house in Pranpur village in Chanderi district.
Aamir along with his co-actress Kareena Kapoor spent two hours past mid night with Hukum Koli and his family. They shared simple home cooked meal.
One of the highest paid actors, Aamir and Kareena went to Pranpur village in Chanderi district this Monday. Both the actors not only wove sari with the help of Hukum Koli and his wife Kamlesh but they also ate the food (pooris and lauki ki sabzi) served by them.
The sari woven by Kareena and Aamir will go for auction through an NGO, and the collected money will be used in the development of the village. The sari carries the names of both the stars.
Aamir told people, traveling with him, “I want to create awareness among the youth to make handloom a more integral part of their wardrobe. It is like wearing Italian shoes because they are handmade. The same goes for handloom.”
Weaver Hukum Koli said that Aamir and Kareena also bought saris for their families. Aamir also gifted one sari instantly to Kareena too.
Talking about her visit, Kareena told media that it was an NGO which informed Aamir about the plight of the weavers and the dying art of Chanderi sari making that is why Aamir decided to visit the weaver and his family.
Kareena also added, “The saris are sold for thousands in cities but the weavers get only a small fraction of that.”
District Chanderi of Madhya Pradesh is a historic place. The place is surrounded by hills, lakes and forests and is known for its handloom from long time. The off white saris of Chanderi were traditionally made of cotton, but over the years weavers have started using silk threads.
Aamir’s recent visit to Chanderi village is suddenly compared with Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi’s visit. Rahul Gandhi has taken British Foreign Secretary David Miliband to village Amethi, his constituency. Where the 39-year-old politician spent the entire night at Dalit Shiv Kumari’s house and Miliband went to other Dalit woman Karma’s house. Both shared dinner with their hosts.
