‘Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani’ Outshines ‘Jail’ on First Day

Latest Friday releases ‘Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani’ and “Jail” were considered to have tough competition but at ticket window the romantic comedy of Rajkumar Santoshi outshined its rival Madhur Bhandarkar’s ‘Jail’.

The audience was attracted by the charm of the cast of ‘Ajab Prem….Ranbir Kapoor, and Katrina Kaif. The light hearted comedy won over Neil Nitin Mukesh starrer ‘Jail’.

According to the Delhi based distributor Joginder Mahajan, “`Ajab Prem Ki…` has got terrific initial thanks to the star cast but it will suffer on the content part. While `Jail` has had a very slow opening…that of only around 20 percent. Shelf life for both movies is only limited till Monday,”

Director Rajkumar Santoshi and producer Ramesh S Taurani have combined all the masala to make “Ajab Prem Ki…” a hit. They also added a special appearance of superstar Salman Khan to hold the audiences in the movie.

‘Jail’ has less entertainment value than ‘Ajab Prem…’ because of the star cast and serious story that deals with tragic story of a common man. Though, Bhandarkar has presented strong plot and good performances by the actors like Neil Nitin Mukesh, Mugdha Godse and Manoj Bajpai but he failed to draw audience’s attention towards ‘Jail’.

Sources say that, “Ajab Prem Ki…` has got a tremendous opening. It is a totally entertaining movie for both classes and masses and a complete family watch with good acting, fast tempo and nice packaging. Audiences are loving it”.

‘Ajab Prem Ki Ghab Kahani’ is full on comedy which is liked by every section of the society especially by families but ‘Jail’ has some objectionable scenes.

Though Madhur Bhandarkar is a critically acclaimed and trend setter director but he can not change audience interest this time.

The corporate head of Wave Cinemas, Yogesh Razdan, have different thought according to him, “The Ranbir Kapoor-starrer has got an average occupancy of above 80 percent and that is obvious because of the comedy and romance element. But despite a 40 percent start, `Jail` is very strong on content and is being appreciated a lot by the audiences and critics both”.

Mr. Razdan also added, “Both movies should at least extend for one weekend without fail. `Jail` will definitely pick up Saturday onwards despite being only for a niche client.”
