Can Michael Jackson’s ‘This Is It’ Win Oscar?
Fans of Pop King Michael Jackson are eagerly waiting Oscar nomination because this time ‘This Is It’ can get nomination among best picture. This time OSCAR awards will select 10 films for Best Film category.
The documentary “This Is It” contains the preparations for come back concert of Michael Jackson. But the documentary came too late in the year to be considered for a documentary Oscar.
Kenny Ortega, the director who was managing Jackson’s come back concert of London, designed the two and half hours long documentary by 100 hour long footage recorded during Jackson’s rehearsals. The documentary has already been admired by fans and critics.
About the documentary, director Kenny Ortega said, “What we did here was focus on telling a good story and creating a film for the fans really enabling them to understand what Michael Jackson had dreamed for them.”
Ortega also said it was his hope “the audience for this film will grow and that as many people come to see it as possible because I think that it’s a wonderful story about a brilliant man… Awards, Oscars, that’s all great wishful thinking.”
According to the Leslie Unger, spokeswoman for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, to qualify for Oscar, the film must complete a seven day run in Los Angeles County and film makers should ‘submit the paper work’.
Though Sony Studio who has the rights of ‘This Is It’ has not yet announced its plan for submitting nominations for Oscar. But the fans of Michael Jackson wish that the documentary not only wins the Academy awards but all other awards like Golden Globe so that the works of late King of Pop gets its best recognition.
