Rahman Walks Away With Two Grammy Awards

Famous Bollywood music composer A.R Rahman has won two Grammy Awards for his song ‘Jai Ho’ of the movie ‘Slumdog Millionaire’. First Oscar and now Grammy Awards, Rahman has told the world that Bollywood is no less than Hollywood.

The 44 year old Indian composer won the awards at the dazzling 52nd Annual Grammy awards ceremony in Los Angeles. He won two Grammy in the Best Compilation Soundtrack for a motion picture and the Best Motion Picture Song categories. Excited but humble, Rahman said, “This is insane, god is great again”.

This was the special moment for Rahman, as he was nominated first time in Grammy Awards and won 2 awards together. Though, Grammy Awards are familiar with many legendry Indian classical musicians like Pandit Ravi Shankar, Zakir Jussain, Vikku Vinayak and Vishvamohan Bhatt who had already won the Grammy in the past. But this was the first time when any Bollywood musician won the prestigious Grammy Awards.

Rahman’s song ‘Jai Ho’, sung by Sukhvinder Singh, Tanvi Shah, Mahalaxmi Iyer, Vijay Prakash and Rahman, became an international hit last year. Steve Jordan for ‘Cadillac Records,’ Quentin Tarantino for ‘Inglourious Basterds’ gave tough competition to Rahman in best soundtrack category.

In the best song category Rahman faced competition from international Crooner Bruce Springsteen for his song ‘The Wrestler’. But outshining all the competitors, Rahman walked away with both the Grammy Awards.

AR Rahman Gets “Indian of the Year 2009” Award

Academy awards winner AR Rahman has been awarded CNN-IBN Indian of the Year 2009. The sparkling award ceremony was held in the national capital, Delhi. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh presented the award to Rahman. Rahman was also declared the recipient of the CNN-IBN Indian of the Year 2009 in the Entertainment category. He was awarded for his various achievements for representing India on the global entertainment stage with his wins at the Golden Globe and Oscar Awards 2009.

Bharat Ratna, Pandit Ravi Shankar was also honored with the Lifetime Achievement award. The legendary sitar artist was honored for his truly global musical spirit and unparallel achievements that have risen above cultural and national barriers, finding millions of admirers.

Veteran actor Kamal Hassan was honored at the CNN-IBN Indian of the Year 2009 award ceremony for being India’s most versatile, and arguably, one of the greatest actors on the Indian screens in a career spanning 50 years. He has been awarded with Special Achievement Award.

Special Achievement award was given to the Indian Test Cricket team for becoming the world’s best test team and achieving unprecedented consistency in their performance. Cricketers like Anil Kumble, Rahul Dravid, and VVS Laxman were present at the award function along with Ex-Captain Sourav Ganguly.

Rajdeep Sardesai, Editor-in-Chief of IBN18 Network said, “CNN-IBN Indian of the Year is an initiative that attempts to recognize the contribution of individuals who have not only made exceptional contributions in their respective categories but have also proved themselves to be first amongst equals.”

Hollywood Mesmerized with A.R. Rahman’s Magical Music in ‘Couples Retreat’

Oscar winner Indian composer A.R. Rahman has mesmerized foreign audience with his first Hollywood mainstream film music in ‘Couples Retreat’. The film has crossed 100 million dollars at North America box office.

The film ‘Couples Retreat’ is 1 hour and 53 minutes long comedy. It was worldwide released on Oct 8. The domestic collection of ‘Couples Retreat’ is 102 million dollars and worldwide the film has earned over 20 million.

The film ‘Couples Retreat’ is directed by Peter Billingsley (Dinner for Five). The story of film is about a couple Vince Vaughn (Wedding Crashers) and Jason Bateman, who go to a tropical island resort for their vacations. Major part of the film is shot in Tahiti (French Polynesia) and USA.

A.R. Rahman has composed two songs in the film: ‘Na Na’ and ‘Sajna’. A.R. Rahman’s son A.R. Ameen has also sung the song ‘Na Na’. Both the songs are loved by audience.

A.R. Rahman Offers Jackson Studies in His Conservatory

Oscar winner music composer A.R. RAHMAN has introduced a study on magical music of MICHAEL JACKSON in his music conservatory.

A.R.Rahman was working with Jackson when he was preparing his comeback music concerts. Now Rahman is offering tribute to the King of Pop by starting a new course on Jackson’s music at KM Music Conservatory in Kodambakkam, Tamil Nadu.

Reportedly an insider Rajan Zed has revealed that the Slumdog Millionaire composer will give inaugural lecture on legendry singer and composer Michael Jackson.

Some sources reported that Rahman is making an album to pay tribute to Jackson. The album will feature some of the greatest music composers from all over the world.

Rahman, the founder and principal of the KM Music Conservatory has given Jackson’s fans a great gift in form of study of his music.
