Review of “Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge”

First Bollywood venture of famous Hollywood Studio Warner Brothers, “Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge” is releasing today, 5th March. Directed by Ashwni Dhir and produce by Amita Pathak, the movie is ready to recreate the magic of clean and simple comedy of 70s era.

The story of the movie revolves around a married couple Puneet (Ajay Devgn) and Munmun (Konkona Sen Sharma) who lives in Mumbai. There life changes when their distant relative, Chachaji (Paresh Rawal) steps into their house from village. The overstaying of guest frustrates the couple and situation becomes more comic when they make plans to throw Chachaji out of their house.

Performance wise Paresh Rawal outshines every actor. He portrays the real and raw character traits of an old villager and his habit of producing bad gas adds humor in every scene. Ajay and Konkona are impressive in their respective roles.

The story of the movie by Robin Bhatt and Tushar Hiranandani is well written, except some parts which look unnecessary. But the story does remind us of the classy movies of brilliant directors like Hrishikesh Mukerjee and Basu Bhattacharya.

Director Ashwni Dhir has done a good job. He has successfully depicted the plight of middle class family who lives in a metro and is unable to bear such a guest who is not willing to go anywhere and loves to enjoy his position.

Ashwni Dhir has written hilarious and rib tickling dialogues. The cinematography by Aseem Bajaj is very impressive.

Though the music of the movie by Pritam is not so catchy but it goes well with the situations of the movie especially the devotional song.

The other cast includes Satish Kaushik who is as usual unforgettable. Sanjay Mishra is quite impressive in his role. Akhilendra Mishra, Mukesh Tiwari and Viju Khote are also good.

Altogether “Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge” is sensible, clean and lighthearted comedy that is a full family entertainer. It is a worth watching film.

Review of Movie “Teen Patti”

Director Leena Yadav’s most ambitious project ‘TEEN PATTI’ has released today. The movie features two most talented actors from Bollywood and Hollywood, Mr. Amitabh Bachchan and Mr. Ben Kingsley (the actor who played the role of Gandhi, in movie ‘Gandhi’).

The movie ‘Teen Patti’ is not all about gambling, it is a story of human greed which only leads to the evil paths. Though the movie has got very good hype but I must say the movie resembles with the Hollywood film ‘21’.

The movie is a story of Mathematic Genius Venkat (Amitabh Bachchan) who has discovered a theory that could redefine the principles of probability and randomness.

To prove his metal and worth of his theory in real world Venkat encourages his young colleague professor Shantanu (Madhavan) to use it. Though, Venkat has no interest in money but due to Shantanu’s persuasion, he agrees to use his theory of probability in the gambling game ‘Teen Patti’. With the help of four students Dhruv Ganesh, Shraddha Kapoor, Siddharth Kher, Vaibhav Talwar (4 new comers) they win huge money in Mumbai gambling world.

But later on the simple experiment becomes addiction and greed of characters which leads them to the dark world of crime.

On the acting front, once again Amitabh Bachchan stands out. He has successfully displayed the eccentric behavior of an old genius who wants recognition. R. Madhavan is getting better with each movie. He has done full justice with his character.

The 4 newcomers are looking very promising. Siddharth, Shraddha and Dhruv get maximum footage but Vaibhav catches the attention more.

There are many cameos of many actors like Jackie Shroff, Ajay Devgn, Tinnu Anand and Shakti Kapoor which makes the movie confusing and boring.

The cast also includes Raima Sen who is ok, Barry John, Anjan Srivastava and Mahesh Manjrekar who are nice in their small roles. Last but not the least Sir Ben Kingsley is quite impressive in the film.

Director Leena Yadav has done a great job. She has successfully depicted the greed of all the characters perfectly. But the complexity of the story spoils the interest of audiences. The story sometime looks too weird to believe, like Amitabh Bachchan gets Sir Isaac Newton Award in the film. The dialogues delivered by Mr. Bachchan are too lengthy and boring.

Cinematography by Aseem Bajaj is wonderful and music by Salim-Sulaiman is very catchy, especially the item song performed by Brazilian model Mariah ‘Neeyat kharab’.

The movie has two legendry actors and good performances but it fails to attract because of uneven storyline.

‘Ishqiya’ Outshines ‘Rann’ at Box Office

Recently released ‘Ishqiya’, outshines Amitabh Bachchan starrer ‘Rann’ at box office. Vishal Bhardwaj, whose previous movie ‘Kaminey’ was a big hit, produced ‘Ishqiya’.

Both the star-studded movies were released on Friday, 29 January. But The ‘Ishqiya’ in comparison to ‘Rann’ performed better. In the opening weekend ‘Ishqiya’ recorded almost 80 percent collections but the collection of ‘Rann’ was around 30%.

The corporate head (cinemas) of Wave Cinemas, Mr. Yogesh Raizada told reporters, “‘Ishqiya’ has got a strong opening in both Delhi and Uttar Pradesh in both multiplexes and single-screens. It has got around 80 percent business over the initial weekend.”

Mr. Raizada also said, “The dialogue delivery in the movie is very good and it is a typical masala movie but the drawback is that everyone might not like it because it has its own class. While ‘Rann’ is gripping but has managed only around 30 percent opening. There has been no initial for this one. It has its own class but no mass appeal.”

Delhi-based distributor Mr. Joginder Mahajan said, “‘Rann’ has fared very poorly thanks to its subject. ‘Ishqiya’ on the other hand has been average vis-a-vis ‘Rann’. It is an ordinary affair with local appeal. Though the masses are watching it but the film is not for everyone because some are finding it a bit cheap.”

He added, “Surprisingly, ‘Ishqiya’ is performing better in multiplexes and not in B and C sectors. We are expecting it to earn an average Rs.2 crore overall in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.”

“Ishqiya” which is directed by debutant Abhishek Chaubey, has actors like Naseeruddin Shah, Vidya Balan and Arshad Warsi. On the other hand ‘Rann’ is directed by experienced director Ram Gopal Verma and has big stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Paresh Rawal and Riteish Deshmukh. Even than ‘Ishqiya’ outshined big budget movie “Rann” with its simple but attractive story and brilliant direction.

According to an industry source, “The failure of ‘Rann’ has again given a dud out of Ram Gopal Varma’s camp. While ‘Ishqiya’ has the rustic and poetic appeal very common to Vishal Bhardwaj. No matter whatever the fate, his movies somehow do manage to leave an effect on the audiences’ minds.

Film Review:
Produced by Vishal Bhardwaj “Ishqiya” is another out standing movie set on the backdrop of Western Uttar Pradesh, Gorakhpur. The movie which was released on this Friday is directed by debutant director Abhishek Chaubey.

Written by Vishal Bhardwaj, Abhishek Chaubey and Sabrina Dhawan, Ishqiya is a story of love triangle between two thieves (Naseeruddin Shah and Arshad Warsi) and a widow (Vidya Balan).

Film starts with Naseeruddin Shah (Khalujaan) and Arshad Warsi (Babban), two thieves of Uttar Pradesh, running from their boss after taking off all his money. They both reach Gorakhpur, to meet an old friend but discover that he is dead. His widow, Krishna (Vidya Balan) gives them shelter. After which the story of complicated love triangle with the series of kidnappings, deaths and blow-ups starts. The climax of the film is unconventional and surprising.

On the acting front, all the three actors have given good performances. Talented actor Naseeruddin Shah as Khalujaan, 51 year old thief in the film has done full justice with his character as was expected. He has wonderfully depicted the emotion of aging lover who wants to live a peaceful life after spending many years in the world of guns and gangsters.

Arshad Warsi who is considered as the average actor, surprised everyone, he looked very convincing as young thief from Uttar Pradesh. Last but not least Vidya as Krishna has given tremendous performance. She played the role of sexy, deceptive women who seduces both men cunningly and uses them to fulfill her intentions.

Director Abhishek Chaubey made the film with full conviction and created an interesting drama with new twists. He has very tactfully served a spicy treat of comedy and suspense before audience.

Cinematographer Mohana Krishna Agapu has done marvelous job. The background score and music of film is quite nice and Vishal Bhardwaj has composed nice songs with catchy folk music touch.

The movie is sure to attract a lot of audiences specially the young college going students but some parts of the movie in which some abusive words have been used might seem offensive to family audience.

Review of ‘Rann’

Film Review:
After giving many flop films, Ramgopal Varma seems to be bouncing back with his new release Rann’. Rann is a serious movie which exposes media, industrialists and politician’s connections. It also discloses media giants’ game that how they sensationalize simple news for popularity and ratings.

Written by Rohit Banawlikar ‘Rann’ is a social drama which is woven around the founder of a private news channel 24/7, Vijay Harshvardhan Malik (Amitabh Bachchan) who is a hardcore upholder of journalistic ethics. Vijay’s struggling channel is looked after by his son Jay Malik (Sudeep). Jay considers her father’s news channel purely as a business enterprise that must make profits to survive.

Vijay’s rival Amrish Kakkar (Mohnish Bahl) who was once his employee is gaining profits by making the news sensational.

The twist in the story comes when corrupt politician, Mohan Pandey (Paresh Rawal), a Prime Minister position aspirant, decides to use the channel 24/7 for his own advantage by using Vijay’s son-in-law Navin (Rajat Kapoor).

Navin who wants to be No 1 industrialist persuades Jay to make a deal with Pandey. The climax of the film is filled with great dialogues and powerful performance from Big B.

Performances of all the actors are good. Amitabh Bachchan has done full justice with his character and his dialogue delivery is quite impressive. Another actor who made his mark is Sudeep. Ritesh Deshmukh is nice in his role. But his part as investigator looks a bit confusing in the film.

Paresh Rawal, who enters in Ramu’s camp after a long gap, has delivered tremendous performance in a negative role. Rajat Kapoor is flawless. Mohnish Bahl too has given a wonderful performance.

Other actors like Neetu Chandra, Gul Panag, Nina Kulkarni, Simone Singh and Suchitra Krishnamoorthy are average. Rajpal Yadav has done a good job of adding some funny touch to a serious movie.

The strength of the film is its strong story and powerful performance. Solid dialogues are one more plus point of the film. The cinematography of Amit Roy is quite noticeable. Direction of RGV is amazing as usual. Background score of the film is impressive and music is good.

The movie gets heavy at some points which can causes boredom. There is no masala in the film so people who like light-hearted and fun-filled cinema might not appreciate the film much.

Movie Review “Veer”

Salman Khan’s most ambitious project “Veer” released today with a lot of expectations. Written by Salman himself, Veer is a historic epic drama set on the backdrop of British Rule in India (1875).

The movie is directed by ‘Gadar’ fame director, Anil Shrma and produced by Vijay Galani and Sunil A. Lulla. Salman starrer “Veer” is introducing a new fresh face in industry, Zarine Khan. The other cast includes big names like Mithun Chakraborty, Jackie Shroff, Sohail Khan and Miss UK Liza Lazarus.

The Eros International film ‘Veer’ is a periodic film set in 1875. The story of the movie is all about the valor, patriotism and passionate love of Pindari warrior Veer. Salman who said that ‘Veer’ is his dream project, completely dedicated himself in the movie. Though the story is looking like a khichdi (mixture) of Troy, Gladiator and some Hindi “Deshbhakti” (patriotic) movies.

Salman has done a lot of hard work at acting and physical front. He built stronger and firm curves for playing the main role of a warrior. He has nicely portrayed the character of a man who not only fights for his country and for love but also against conspiracy of his own tribe’s men (played by Jackie Shroff).

Salman is looking totally fit in the character. The makeup artists and art director have done full justice to make the film look like a period film.

Starting of the film is quite impressive but as the film proceeds to the part where Salman meets his lady love (Zarine Khan) at a London College, looks unreal.

Debutant actress Zarine Khan as princess Yashodhara is looking beautiful but it seems that she needs some more acting lessons. Zarine is pretty but expressionless or has just few expressions. (She sheds tears without expression of sadness on her face)

The story just before the interval is quite weird as it shows Salman killing many people because his identity is disclosed in the college campus. He returns India with severely injured brother (played by none other than but Salman’s own bro once again).

The second half of the film is just about taking revenge, punishing traitors and fulfilling promises. The climax of the film is long and boring. This time director Anil Sharma has failed to impress.

The other actors like Mithun Chakraborty, Sohail Khan, Puru Raj Kumar and Nina Gupta are ok but Jackie has done full justice to his negative role.

Cinematographer Gopal Shah has done a great job. The action director Tinu Verma added strength to the film. He has maintained the historical accuracy. He used similar battle style and body movements of the Pindari warriors.

Music of Sajid- Wajid is melodious and background score by Monty is exceptionally good.

If you are planning to watch this movie then I’ll suggest that you leave your mind at home. Just watch Salman and his great action in “Veer”.

Bollywood’s most prestigious banner Yash Raj Films “Pyaar Impossible” has been released today. The film is directed by actor turned director Jugal Hansraj. The movie stars Uday Chopra and Priyanka Chopra in the lead roles, along with Anupam Kher and Dino Morea in two pivotal roles. The film is written and produced by Uday Chopra. The duo Salim-Sulaiman is the music director of the film. And the lyrics in the film have been penned by Anvita Dutta Guptan.

Uday plays Abhay and Piggy Chops plays Alisha in the film. Abhay is an awkward, shy, unconfident bespectacled geek. On the other hand, Alisha is a sexy, bold and most beautiful girl on campus.

Every student at Ankert University in California wishes to love Alisha. Abhay is also among the Alisha’s admirer. He has two loves in the film one is Computer and second is Alisha.

Abhay falls in love with Alisha. He wants to spend his entire life with Alisha. But Abhay lacks the courage to express his love.

Here the story of Impossible Pyaar begins. The duo parts their ways after college and after some years they meet again. How they come close to each other? The film ends with a very nice conclusion. To know rest of the story you have to go to the theatre.

“Pyaar Impossible” is surely a one-time watch movie. The film has a very ordinary story line and director has given a very simple treatment to it. Priyanka is looking absolutely gorgeous in her glamorous avatar. Uday Chopra has done justice with his character. This film can well prove to be the turning point of his drowning career.

If you are free this weekend, go and watch “Pyaar Impossible”.

Review of “Dulha Mil Gaya”

The first Friday of 2010 has brought two big blockbuster films. Mudassar Aziz’s “Dulha Mil Gaya” is one of them. The film took 2 years to complete. The film has finally released and has hit the theatres today. The movie is produced by Viveck Vaswani. The film stars Fardeen Khan, Sushmita Sen, Ishita Sharma in lead roles. Bollywood’s ‘Badshah’ Shah Rukh Khan has done a cameo in the film. The director has tried to publicize the aura of ‘King Khan’ to sell his film.

Before talking about the basic elements like acting, music, script and other things, I want to give you a brief idea about the story. The film starts with Donsai (Fardeen Khan), who is a young Commitment Phobic Casanova and gets petrified with terms like marriage. He is an NRI in film who migrates to India to marry a ‘desi girl’ of Punjab. ‘Samarpreet’ is the Punjabi Kudi played by Ishita Sharma in the film.

Shimmer (Sushmita Sen) is the glamorous diva for whom love and relationships aren’t much important in life as independence and success are. Donsai and Shimmer are best of friends. Pawan Raj Gandhi/PRG [Shah Rukh Khan] is a suave multi-millionaire whose heart still remains larger than his bank balance. He is an ex-lover of Shimmer and he comes to revive his relationship with the diva (Sushmita).

The lives of these four collide and thus the change of mentality and the personality happens in the film. Shimmer helps to change Ishita from an ordinary gaon ki gori to modern day hottie. And lastly the film goes towards happyyyz ending.

The film can be considered as a mixed recipe of “My Fare Lady”, “Dulhan Wahi Jo Piya Mann Bhaye”, “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge”, “Naseeb Apna Apna”, and “Rabne Bana Di Jodi”. The story of the film is very predictable and we can say it is an old wine in a new bottle.

Fardeen Khan started his innings in 1998 with “Prem Agan”, but till date he lacks the ‘acting zeal’. He is a bad choice for the role. Sushmita looks like million dollars in the film but fails with her dialogue delivery and comic timing. Ishita Sharma hardly gets any scope to prove herself in the film. The cameo of Shah Rukh Khan is the only oxygen in the film.

The script is weak and hardly raises any curiosity among the audience. The music by Lalit Pandit lacks the ‘magic’ of ‘DDLJ’ and ‘KKHH’. The songs like; “Akela Dil” and “Dilrubao Ke Jalwe” are the exceptions, respectively sung by Adnan Sami and Monali Thakur. The out door location in Trinidad and Tobago has been utilized perfectly.

The film is not worth watching and a complete loss.

Review of “3-Idiots”

Year’s last blockbuster “3-Idiots” has already hit the theatres today. And after seeing the film I can easily say that the Mr. Perfectionist, Aamir Khan, is not away from making his hat trick. From last two years he is been releasing his films on 25th of December religiously. Two years back Aamir’s “Tare Zamin Par” created a history. Again last year he recreated the same magic with “Ghazini”, which also rocked on the box-office. This year, this Indian Santa brings “3-Idiots” for his fans.

The film is directed by Raj Kumar Hirani of “Munnabhai” fame. “3-Idiots” was promoted as based on Chetan Bhagat’s “5 point someone”. But the story has hardly any resemblance, except the backdrop of the engineering college. The film stars Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor, R. Madhavan, Sharman Joshi, Mona Singh and Boman Irani. The venture has been produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra.

I want to throw some light on the story. The story revolves around Ranchoddas Shaymaldas Chajaad played by Aamir Khan who leaves college all of a sudden. The flick starts with Farhan (R. Madhavan) and Raju (Sharman Joshi) beginning a journey in search of their lost friend Ranchoddas aka Rancho.

The movie proceeds through narrations that take you into the flashback when Rancho, Farhan and Raju arrive at a premier engineering institute to begin their course. They were best of the friends. Rancho’s mantra was ‘I’ll Do It On my Terms’. This mantra always inspired all three friends.

Raju Rastogi and Farhan Qureshi remembered Rancho’s romantic relationship with Pia (Kareena Kapoor). Pia is the daughter of their college professor Mr. Viru Sahastrabudhhe (Boman Irani). They wondered about the disappearance of Rancho from the midst of the course without informing them.

Farhan, Raju are trying to locate him through their journey of Shimla, Manali, Ladakh etc. What happens to their quest and if they were able to find out the whereabouts of Rancho, is revealed in the later part of the flick. And, I am not going to reveal that.

Now, coming to the performances, nothing is enough to describe Aamir Khan’s performance. He is a true genius. Once again he has proved himself. He is a true perfectionist. Madhavan is a great actor and his natural acting style makes him different from the other biggies. Sharman has proved himself by his brilliant performance in the flick. Raju Hirani’s favorite Boman Irani is undoubtedly superb.

Well, we must mention Kareena Kapoor in the film. She has given her best in the film. She is a director’s actor. Her outstanding performance in the film surprises everybody. She has revived “Geet” of “Jab We Met” in the film. This is Mona Singh’s debut film. Her acting capability is not hidden from anyone. She is still remembered as “Jassi”. But she should have gone for a better role for her debut. Her role is limited but she has marked her screen presence.

Music by Shantanu Moitra is pretty good. Audience has experienced a new fragrance of music. Over all it is a fun film and a good Christmas gift for all cinema lovers.

Film Review “Paa”

“Paa”, the film is produced by AB Corp Ltd. The film stars Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan and Vidya Balan in the lead. The film is directed by R.Balakrishnan. The lyrics have been penned by Swanand Kirkire. And the music director of the film is Ilaiyaraja. I am not going to repeat those stuffs which you already know or have watched in the promos. But I must throw some light on the story line.

The story is about Auro Arte, a 13 year old boy who suffers from a rare disease named “Progeria”. The disease accelerates ageing. Mentally, Auro is 13, very normal, but physically he looks five times older. Being in this condition, he is a very joy full boy and lives with his mother Vidya (played by Vidya Balan). Vidya is separated from her husband and a successful gynecologist. She portrays a character of strong single mother. Auro is completely clueless of his father’s identity, till he meets Amol Arte (Abhishek Bachchan), who is a politician. The character of Amol’s father is played by Paresh Rawal. As the promo depicts the film is about son-father, father-son relationship. But let me tell you, the film is also about a mother-son, son-mother relationship.

Please don’t mistake “Paa” to be a rona-dhona movie. It is a very fun film with plenty of funny sequences. Especially the conversation scenes between Auro and his best friend Prateek have been filmed awesomely. Auro is not at all different from other kids except from his look. He is as naughty as other kids in his class. The only problem is that he looks like an aged person. I am not going to reveal much about the story.

Talking about the performances, every body knows that Amitabh Bachchan is a legendary actor who prefers to break his own records. But after watching “Paa”, I must say that this actor deserves 100% more what he has achieved in his life.

Abhishek Bachchan as Auro’s paa has done a superb job. He has nicely blended the politician avatar and a father’s character. Vidya as Auro’s mother is just amazing! She is the best choice for the role. Paresh Rawal is fine in his role. Arundhati Naag is perfect. More over it is a team work and Balki has proved his metal once again.

Direction of Balki is flawless. Transforming the veteran actor into a kid must’ve been an arduous task, but Christien Tinsley and Domini Till have done it. And they deserve a standing applause for making Auro’s look so real.

On the whole “Paa” is an amazing experience. And hat’s off to the entire cast and crew. The film has been made under the budget of 17 crore. And we are sure it will collect lot more than its budget.

Leave your all important work and go for “Paa”.
