Why ‘Avatar’ Failed to Win Oscars?

The 2010 Oscar Awards have been distributed and we have witnessed a David-Goliath battle at the podium of Kodak Theatre in Hollywood. In this David-Goliath battle, an underdog movie “The Hurt Locker” outshined the most appreciated and highest earning movie of the year “Avatar”.

Though Oscar history has been written but still ‘Avatar’ fans are thinking why the movie failed to get the honor, what was expected?

The major reason behind “Avatar’s failure is the story! It is commonly seen that reality has always an edge over fantasy at Oscar. Where ‘Hurt’ was a real life drama of the life of bomb defusing squad, “Avatar” was imagery story of relations between human and alien race Navi.

The other reason can be the performances of the actors! Between both the movies there was vast difference of live performance and digitally induced performance. Though audience loved the latest innovative idea of James Cameron but the jury of Oscar still believes in old school of expression packed performance which was clearly won by Kathryn Bigelow’s movie.

According to some people “Avatar” failed to stimulate or stir the hearts of audiences. At this front “The Hurt Locker” not only shakes the hearts of people but makes them cry where as Avatar only amazed audience with its grandeur. And what else the Oscar jury wants! It satisfied the basic rule of being a passionate film. That is why “The Hurt Locker” was selected over “Avatar”.

Altogether, we can say that the massive and billion grossing movie “Avatar” failed to impress the traditional Oscar jury members, that’s all!

Movie LSD will Offer Unforeseen Nude Scenes

According to the latest Bollywood news, upcoming movie LSD (Love Sex aur Dhokha) will showcase the steamy nude scenes that Indian audiences have never seen before.

The controversial scene was shot with an approximate of 4 people in the room while the cameras were rolling.

According to an inside source, “The script required the scene to be shot with full frontal. It took a lot of courage for both the actors to do it. LSD does not aim to shock audiences but does aim at mirroring reality.”

It is this reality factor which is said to be the USP of LSD. The film is co-produced by Ekta Kapoor, Shobha Kapoor and Priya Sreedharan.

The film which is shot with a hidden camera playing a character by itself, LSD features a bunch of newcomers with no mainstream background. Also, sex and voyeurism form a major driving force of the narrative of this film which is ready to release on 19th March.

The movie talks about how voyeurism is indeed a reality in today’s society. The source says, “The content and scenes in the film will be slightly difficult for audiences to digest but once they know the thought behind it, they will realize it’s the cold hard truth. After all somebody needs to inform audiences and question the decisions they take in day to day life.”

The identity of the actors of the film is kept under cover due to the provocative nature and content of the film. The gossips about the film has already got mouths talking but if there is one thing the team is tight lipped about, it’s the actors and the story of their discovery.

A source from Balaji reveals, “Ekta and Dibaker went on a nation wide hunt for these actors after the script was in place. Since the film mirrors reality, having known faces would not have done justice to the story.” This is the reason why the makers have adopted a marketing strategy of not going out with the LSD’s actors’ identities since it would only increase the audience’s curiosity.

Adds the source, “LSD has been in the news for its offensive lyrics, controversial subject, cuss words used in the film and never seen before nude scenes. Not revealing the actors starring in the film will only further pique audience curiosity about the film.”

Drug Overdose Suspected in Corey Haim’s Death

Hollywood’s “Lost Boys” star Corey Haim, reportedly died due to drug overdose at his apartment in Los Angles. The teen heartthrob of 80s, Haim’s career was ruined by his drug habits.

Haim’s mother called paramedics but the 38 years old actor was declared dead by the Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank. There was no sign of foul play found.

Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter said, “As he got out of bed, he felt a little weak and went down to the floor on his knees. It was an apparent overdose.”

Though there were no illegal drugs found at the apartment, but authorities said they discovered four bottles of prescription pills.

A close friend of the actor told RadarOnline.com that Haim had been abusing prescription drugs in his final days.

Haim’s friend told reporters, “I’m not surprised that this has happened. Corey got really upset that his mom was being treated for breast cancer and that she had lost her hair because of chemotherapy. She is all he really had in the world . . . he got pretty depressed about the situation.”

Haim’s co-actor of “Lost Boys”, Corey Feldman, who later collaborated with him on reality television show “The Two Coreys,” said he wept when he heard the news.

In a message he wrote, “My eyes weren’t even open all the way when the tears started streaming down my face. We must all take this as a lesson in how we treat the people we share this world with while they are still here to make a difference.”

Other stars took to Twitter to mourn Haim’s death.

Actress Alyssa Milano, who once dated Haim, wrote on twitter, “Just woke up to the sad, sad news that Corey Haim passed away. RIP sweet boy. My thoughts go out to Corey’s family and friends today.”

Haim accepted his struggle with drug abuse to a British tabloid in 2004. He told tabloid, “I was working on ‘Lost Boys’ when I smoked my first joint. I did cocaine for about a year and a half, then it led to crack.”

He also told, “I started on the downers, which were a hell of a lot better than the uppers because I was a nervous wreck.”

Haim went into rehabilitation and was put on prescription drugs. He said he took stimulants and sedatives.

Priyanka Chopra Banned from Using Twitter

According to the latest Bollywood gossip, former miss world and actress Priyanka Chopra has been banned from using Twitter. Her Twitter obsession has been curbed by none other then Sajid Nadiadwala who is the producer of her upcoming movie.

Sajid has banned the actress from posting any kind of information on the social networking site. While most filmmakers are still looking for ways to approach their actors on the issue, Nadiadwala has taken strict steps to assure that no member of the cast or the crew will leak any kind of details about his project ‘Anjaana Anjaani’ on any networking site.

Nadiadwala took this strict decision because he saw a constant inflow of pictures and information being put up on the social site. Both lead actors of his movie Priyanka Chopra and Ranbir Kapoor are the active users of the site so, Sajid had no choice but to impose his decision.

Talking to a daily, Sajid confirmed the news and said, “I actually took the decision to forbid my cast and crew from putting any information on websites after an incident that happened with Sajid Khan, my director of ‘Housefull’. We were doing a photo-session with the film’s stars. We weren’t even finished and Sajid Khan had already put one of the pictures on the site. I was horrified. That’s when I decided it was time to make the confidentiality clause a legal issue in all my contracts.”

Regretting the lack of privacy among stars, Sajid further added, “I remember when my father produced JP Dutta’s Ghulami, we’d stand outside Dharmendra’s van for hours waiting for him to emerge so we could see what he wore, how he styled his hair, what watch he had on, etc. Today the stars volunteer all this information on the social networks even before the director takes his first shot. I think all of us need to make confidentiality compulsory for every film.”

Though it is a very hard decision but looks like Piggy Chops have to follow her producer’s wish. After all professionalism matters most.

Lindsay Lohan Files $100 M Lawsuit Against “Milkaholic” Ad

Though actress Lindsay Lohan may not be getting the films anymore, but she knows how to make millions. She has filed a lawsuit against a widely viewed television advertisement for violating her rights.

According to the latest Hollywood news, the 23 years old actress has sued an online brokerage E-Trade for $100 million alleging that a company ad in which a baby named Lindsay is referred to as a “milkaholic” violated her rights.

The ad first appeared during the Super Bowl in February and featured a baby boy apologizing to his girlfriend for standing her up because he was too busy trading shares. “And that ‘milkaholic’ Lindsay wasn’t over?” the baby girl asks before another baby girl who enters into the screen saying, “Milk-a-whaaat?” It was the latest in a series of ads featuring the babies in a bid to show the ease of the online trading system.

Lohan’s lawyer, Stephanie Ovadia filed a lawsuit on Monday, in which he said that the ad was a clear reference to her client, who has a dismal record of substance abuse.

She said, “Many celebrities are known by one name only, and E-Trade is using that knowledge to profit. They’re using her name as a parody of her life. Why didn’t they use the name Susan? This is a subliminal message. Everybody’s talking about it and saying it’s Lindsay Lohan.”

The agency who produced the commercial, said that they, “just used a popular baby name that happened to be the name of someone on the account team”. They were not referring to Lindsay Lohan.

Sharon Osbourne Wishes to Sell Her Boobs Online

Oscar Interrupter Says She was Offended

According to the latest news, a documentary producer who interrupted a director’s Oscar acceptance speech on Sunday night says she was the one who was “big-footed” on stage.

The producer, Elinor Burkett, appeared in HLN’s “The Joy Behar Show”, said Roger Ross Williams’ charge that she ambushed him is wrong.

Burkett said, “‘Ambushed’ makes it sound like I was just some woman who stormed up on the stage.”

Williams and Burkett who worked together on a documentary, “Music by Prudence” won the Academy Award for best short documentary. The documentary is about a Zimbabwean woman who overcomes a severe disability and family rejection in one of the world’s poorest countries.

After receiving the award, Williams was 10 seconds into his acceptance speech when Burkett, edged him from the microphone.

The 63 years old, Burkett clarified that, “He (William) tried to make sure I couldn’t get there before him. He just didn’t seem to think I would be so rude to interrupt him.”

Burkett also told Behar that not she but Williams edged her by running to the stage while she was slowed by Williams’ elderly mother.

She said, “I couldn’t get out. I think you get up and wait for me to get up, and we go up together graciously. He starts talking when I’m halfway up.”

The video of the event clearly showed that Williams jogging from the rear of the Kodak Theater to the stage to take the gold Oscar statue and the microphone.

Williams started his speech as, “Oh, my God, this is amazing. Two years ago, when I got on an airplane and went to Zimbabwe, I never imagined in my wildest dreams that I’d end up here. This is so exciting.”

But by that point, Burkett had reached him and took the microphone from him and said, “Just like a man, never lets a woman talk. Isn’t that just the classic thing?”

She explained to Behar that “either I could let him blather on for 45 seconds, or I could interrupt so I could get to talk.”

Burkett said that she wanted the acceptance speech to be about Prudence and the musicians in the documentary, “not that “I am so happy,”.

Williams quietly watched as Burkett spoke, until the Oscar director cued exit music a minute into the speech.

Lastly Williams said, pointing to the audience, “Prudence is here tonight. This is for Prudence.”

After the event when Williams, appeared on CNN’s “Larry King Live” on Monday night, he said that the incident was “a little shocking.”

He added, “I was there to talk about Prudence. We were there to honor Prudence and her incredible message and her incredible story.”

King allowed Williams 80 seconds of airtime to complete his acceptance speech.

Williams said he and Burkett are no longer friends.

“There’s always, in the creative process, you get in disputes,” he said.

This kind of incidents in Oscar is compared to the incident occurred at the American Music Awards when rapper Kanye West interrupted Taylor Swift while receiving award for Best Female Video and declared that he thinks that Beyonce should have won the award.

But Burkett said it was not the same, since “Kanye didn’t get the Oscar. She mocked and said, “We should have been able to flip a coin on who would speak.”

“I’m a Big Fan of Shah Rukh”: Akon

Famous R and B singer Akon, who is in Mumbai to record songs for Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming film “Ra.One”, says he is a big fan of the Bollywood’s superstar.

According to the latest Bollywood news, Akon said, “I am a big fan of Shah Rukh. I am very familiar with Shah Rukh’s work. I am meeting Kareena (Kapoor) for the first time today,”

Talking to the reporters in an event, Akon said, “I am also composing (along with singing in “Ra.one”). You know, I will give him (Shah Rukh) a couple of versions of the song, the way I do it. And I will also integrate it with the traditional way the Bollywood films are done. I will give them options and they will decide, which one to use in the film.”

Produced by Shah Rukh’s own production house, “Red Chilies Entertainment”, “Ra.One” will feature Shah Rukh as a superhero.

When reporters asked the singer that if he is willing to do more work with Indian music directors, Akon said, “You will see me doing more things in India soon.”

Talking about African and Indian tradition and entertainment culture the singer said, “You know the tradition in Africa is not different from India. There is same type of entertainment going on, the difference is only in language. I always wanted to expand my horizon, explore and enjoy.”

Akon who will soon go on a world tour is looking forward to his performances in India. He said, “The world tour is coming soon and India is one of my biggest market so I will do number of shows here.”

The singer is also fond of Indian actress Kareena Kapoor. He dedicated two lines from his song “Beautiful” to Kareena, who was present at the event. She is playing the female lead role in “Ra.One”.

Iron Man 2 Trailer: Curiosity Creator

How ‘Avatar’ Lost Best Picture Oscar

This year’s Academy Award for Best picture was won by “The Hurt Locker”. Now the controversial Academy Award has become a topic of discussion among people that how “Avatar” can lose the award to the movie “The Hurt Locker”.

Initially it was expected that for James Cameron’s “Avatar” winning Best picture Academy Award would be like a cakewalk. But Kathryn Bigelow’s “The Hurt Locker” not only won Oscar jury members’ hearts but also outshined “Avatar”.

Many people think that there is a conspiracy or they are putting many theories about Avatar’s failure. But it is not the first time when much expected movie failed to lift the awards. The history of Academy Awards is filled with such anticlimaxes like “Shakespeare in Love” outshined “Saving Private Ryan,” “Gandhi” surpassed “E.T.” or “Crash” edged “Brokeback Mountain”

The reason for Kathryn Bigelow’s “The Hurt Locker” victory can be its theme. Where many Iraq War dramas that have failed to hit their marks at the box office or strike an emotional chord with the public, this one seemed to hit a nerve, achieving the right thematic balance between the horrors of a conflict that just won’t go away and sympathy for those who have to take part in it.

The other reason of Avatar’s disappointment can be preferential voting system of jury member. Though the highly appreciated Avatar is likeed by many people but “Locker” probably reached at the top place on everyone’s list.

Other reason of Avatar’s not getting award can be the idea that a female has made the kind of movie that is considered as exclusive reserve and prerogative of male directors.

Adding more in Academy awards, Cameron and company began arguing for the actors in the movie to be considered for their performances in the same category and league with traditional thespians. This may have caused negative effect in the minds of jury members.

Altogether finally James Cameron lost the Academy Award for Best Picture to his ex-wife Kathryn Bigelow.
