Film Review:
After the record breaking successes of “Hera Pheri” and “Phir Hera Pheri”, Priyadarshan is back with the famous onscreen trio Akshay Kumar, Sunil Shetty and Paresh Rawal. This time they have teamed up for the movie “De Dana Dan”.

The movie also stars Katrina Kaif, Sameera Reddy, Neha Dhupia, Archana Puran Singh, Asrani, Chunky Pandey, Manoj Joshi, Rajpal Yadav, and Johnny Lever. The music is given by Pritam. The movie is produced by Ganesh and Girish Jain and Sunil A. Lulla.

Before starting the criticism of the film I want to convey you that it is not a sequel of “Phir Hera Pheri”. Here I have missed the chemistry among Babu Bhai, Raju and Shyam.

The story is about Nitin Bankar (played by Akshay) who comes to Singapore to become rich. But his destiny forces him to do multitasking for a rich woman industrialist (played by Archana Puran Singh). Even he becomes a care-taker of a pet dog named ‘Moolchandji’. Nitin’s friend Ram Mishra (Sunil Shetty) also comes to Singapore to become rich. He starts working as a courier boy. They both have rich girlfriends Anjali( Katrina Kaif) and Manpreet (Sameera Reddy).

The girlfriends give them ultimatum to become rich as soon as possible, otherwise they will split. So they kidnap Moolchandji (the dog) for the sake of money. The film takes too long to come to point. Money is the need of the hour and so Priyadarshan does some hera pheri in the story – which means a kidnap. After the kidnap, the life of all the characters is changed. The film climax brings 26 actors together in a reel. This is all about the story.

The film has neither the story line nor the punch lines. The famous comedian trio could not match up to the expectations of some rib tickling comedy. Even such a huge cast of comedians could not be able to bring the ship in the harbor. The actresses are like showpieces in the film. Katrina’s comedy timing has been appreciated in “Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Khahani”. But God knows why Priyadarshan hasn’t used it.

Coming to the acting, Akshay has tried a lot with his proper timing and punch lines, but failed to make the audience laugh. Sunil Shetty’s performance could not quite match up to his earlier comic performances. Paresh Rawal is simply boring in the film with his loud acting. The Tsunami climax in the film might have been inspired from the Hollywood flick “The Towering Inferno”.

The expectation was so high but the film has shattered all the hopes. The music by Pritam has made a mark. Especially two songs “Paisa Paisa” and “Sab Rishtey Natey” are very nice.

I do feel sorry for Akki as he is the only one who deserves the round of applause. But next time please check the entire story line before signing.
