Hollywood beauty Charlize Theron has joined the likes of Jessica Biel, Angelina Jolie and Scarlett Johansson by being awarded the ultimate title of sexiest woman alive.

The 32-year-old South African star won an Oscar after her outstanding performance as serial killer Aileen Wuornos in the 2003 film Monster, is Esquire magazine's sexiest woman alive. The issue featuring Theron hits newsstands Oct. 16.

But she was quoted as saying that it's not her looks that have helped her in making good career choices. Theron also talked about her political interests and her work, including her latest movie, "In the Valley of Elah"; a murder mystery set among U.S. troops newly returned from Iraq.

Theron also candidly discussed her least favorite film, “Reindeer Games.” "Reindeer Games," she laughed. "That was a bad, bad, bad movie. But … I got to work with John Frankenheimer. I wasn’t lying to myself — that’s why I did it. I mean, he directed The Manchurian Candidate, which is like the movie of all movies."

Theron, who will next be seen in the anti-globalism drama The Battle for Seattle, directed by her Irish boyfriend Stuart Townsend, also took a swipe at the US government.

"I grew up in a country that learned the lesson that you can't impose your way of life on 26 different kinds of people just because you call yourself righteous," she said.

"I think there are lessons this country still has to learn."
