Movie Review: Jail
Reality based movie maker Madhur Bhandarkar has directed yet another movie based on evils of legal system. The movie reveals the ugly aspect of the legal system which delays the judgment and spoils future of a bright young man.
‘Jail’ is a story of a young ambitious man Parag Dixit, played by Neil Nitin Mukesh, who has a nice job, bright future and beautiful girlfriend. Everything in his life seems good until one day when he comes to know that his roommate is a drug dealer. The police arrest him for the charge of drug dealing.
Story moves further when Parag’s roommate falls in coma, and Parag is left with no evidence regarding his innocence. He has to spend two years in police custody at Thane jail waiting for his trial. Later on he fights for justice for 8 long years to prove him self innocent.
‘Jail’ revolves around one character Parag Dixit, Neil has portrayed the character of a young spirited man. Neil has also nicely showed Parag’s fear and distress in the depressing conditions of jail. The body language and emotion on the face of Neil explains the tragedy of Parag. But some times Neil’s stillness in the film fails to connect with the audience.
Director Madhur Bhandarkar has successfully brought out the good performance from every actor. Mugdha Godse has done good work in a small role as Mansi, the desperate girlfriend of Parag and added some spice to the film.
Manoj Bajpai has done good work as co-prisoner but Arya Babbar and Rahul Singh are not so much convincing in their respective characters.
Altogether performance wise movie is ok. But the screenplay by Anuradha Tiwari and Manoj Tyagi makes story slow and a bit boring.
The cinematography of the movie weakens the backdrop of story. Some of the jail and court scenes are not as strong as you have seen in Madhur Bhandarkar’s other movies.
Though Madhur Bhandarkar has done good direction but his alone effort is not going to benefit the movie at box office. The movie has tough competition from “Ajab Prem Ki Ghajab Kahani” which has already outshined “Jail” on the first day of the release.
If you love watching performance oriented movies then you should certainly go and watch this one.
