Oscar favorite ‘The Hurt Locker’ Facing Lawsuit

The Hurt Locker According to the latest Hollywood news, this year’s Oscar favorite movie “The Hurt Locker” is facing a lawsuit filed by an Iraq war veteran Master Sgt Jeffrey Sarver. He claims that the main character of the reckless bomb disposal expert in the film is based on him.

Sarver’s attorney Geoffrey Fieger in a news conference claimed that “The Hurt Locker” screenwriter Mark Boal was in his unit in 2004 and that he crafted the character based on Sarver’s real-life.

Fieger is planning to file a multi-million-dollar lawsuit against the film’s producers, for not giving him financial benefits of the film. Sarver even claimed that it was he who came up with the phrase The Hurt Locker, and that the film even used his call signal “Blaster One” in the script.

The movie is based on the article that Mark Boal wrote after spending time in a bomb disposal unit. According to the film’s US distributor, Summit Entertainment, “”The film is a story about heroes, depicting a fictional account of what brave men and women do on the battlefield.”

He also said, “We have no doubt that Master Sgt Sarver served his country with honour and commitment, risking his life for a greater good, but we distributed the film based on a fictional screenplay written by Mark Boal.”

The movie has been nominated in nine categories at the 82nd Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor. The director of “The Hurt Locker”, Kathryn Bigelow has won many awards including 2009 Directors Guild of America Award and Best Director at BAFTA.

The film has also swept most critic groups’ awards for best director and best picture including Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Boston and Las Vegas film critics associations. The Hurt Locker also became only the fourth film to win all three major U.S. critics group prizes.
